Bloodstone, also known as Heliotrope, is a cryptocrystalline quartz mineral, a variety of chalcedony. It is primarily a deep, opaque green (often dark green or teal-green) and is distinguished by its sporadic specks of bright red or reddish-brown lustre caused by iron oxide inclusions (hematite or red jasper). These red spots, which resemble drops of blood, are responsible for the stone's name and its ancient status as a powerful talisman.
Bloodstone is known as the "Stone of Courage, Purification, and Vitality." It is one of the most effective grounding and protecting stones, known for its ability to boost strength, courage, and self-esteem. Historically, it was used to purify the blood and enhance physical endurance. Metaphysically, it anchors the heart energy and motivates one to act in the present moment, promoting generosity and an altruistic nature while calming and revitalising the mind.
Hardness: 6.5 to 7 on the Mohs scale (making it durable for daily wear).
Chakra: Primarily the Root Chakra (for grounding and strength) and the Heart Chakra (for courage and compassion).
Zodiac Sign: Aries, Pisces and Libra. It is also a traditional birthstone for March.
Benefits: Provides strength, courage, and physical vitality, aids in grounding and protection, calms the mind to dispel confusion and irritability, enhances intuition and creativity, and is historically used for purification and detoxification.
