Ametrine is a naturally occurring variety of Quartz that contains both Amethyst and Citrine within a single crystal, its two distinct zones of purple and golden yellow created by temperature variations during its formation. When Quartz grows in conditions where one section is exposed to higher temperatures than the other, iron within the crystal oxidises differently in each zone — producing the signature dual colouring. The world's only significant commercial source of natural Ametrine is the Anahí Mine in Bolivia. Its colour zoning can appear as sharp bands or soft gradients depending on the individual specimen.
