Stilbite is a tectosilicate mineral belonging to the zeolite group — a family of hydrated aluminosilicate minerals known for their complex, cage-like crystal structures and remarkable ability to absorb and release water. It forms in the cavities and vesicles of volcanic basalt rock through the slow deposition of silica-rich hydrothermal fluids over millions of years, and is most commonly found in association with other zeolite minerals including Heulandite and Cavansite, as well as the closely related but mineralogically distinct Apophyllite. Stilbite is most celebrated for its extraordinary bowtie or sheaf-like crystal formations — fan-shaped clusters of peach, salmon, white, or pale yellow bladed crystals that radiate outward in a distinctive, elegant arrangement of remarkable natural beauty.
