About This Collection

Chalcedony is a microcrystalline variety of Quartz, composed of extremely fine intergrowths of Quartz and Moganite — two silica minerals with slightly different crystal structures. It forms in a wide variety of geological environments including volcanic rocks, sedimentary deposits, and hydrothermal veins, and serves as the parent mineral for a vast family of well-known stones including Agate, Jasper, Carnelian, Onyx, Chrysoprase, and Bloodstone. Its name is believed to derive from the ancient port city of Chalcedon in Asia Minor, modern-day Türkiye, which was historically a significant trading hub for the stone. In its pure form it typically appears as a waxy, translucent pale blue to grey stone with a smooth, lustrous surface.
