Atlantisite is the trade name given to a combination stone found exclusively in Stichtite Hill, Zeehan, Tasmania, Australia, making it one of the rarest and most geographically unique stones in the world. It consists of green Serpentine intergrown with purple Stichtite, a magnesium chromium carbonate mineral. The Stichtite forms as vivid purple patches and veins within the green Serpentine host rock, creating its distinctive and striking appearance. Stichtite itself forms through the alteration of chromite-bearing Serpentinite rocks by hydrothermal fluids rich in carbon dioxide. Tasmania remains the only significant source of this combination in the world.
