About This Collection

Hawk's Eye, also known as Blue Tiger's Eye or Falcon's Eye, is a blue-grey to blue-green variety of Tiger's Eye formed through the pseudomorphic replacement of Crocidolite — a blue asbestos mineral — by Quartz and iron oxide minerals. Unlike Tiger's Eye, where the Crocidolite fibres are fully oxidised to produce the characteristic golden-brown colour, Hawk's Eye retains much of the original blue-grey colouration of the Crocidolite before oxidation is complete. It displays the same striking chatoyancy — the silky, shifting band of reflected light known as the "cat's eye effect" — as Tiger's Eye, caused by the parallel fibrous structure of the original mineral preserved within the Quartz matrix. South Africa is the world's primary source of both Hawk's Eye and Tiger's Eye.
