Black Tourmaline, also known as Schorl, is a boron silicate mineral that forms in granitic pegmatites, metamorphic rocks, and hydrothermal veins. It is the most common variety of the Tourmaline group and gets its deep black colour from high concentrations of iron within its crystal structure. It typically grows as long, striated prismatic crystals with a distinctive vertical groove pattern running along their length.
