Red Aventurine is a variety of Quartz characterised by its rich red to reddish-brown colouration and the subtle shimmer known as aventurescence — caused by the presence of tiny reflective platelets of Hematite or Goethite aligned within the Quartz matrix, creating a soft, glittering sparkle as light moves across the stone. Its deep, earthy red tones are produced by the high concentration of iron oxide minerals within its structure, giving it a warm, fiery, grounding quality that distinguishes it from other Aventurine varieties. Like all Aventurine, it is a member of the Quartz family, with India being the most significant global source of fine Aventurine material across all colour varieties. It is worth noting that Red Aventurine is frequently and incorrectly marketed in the crystal trade as "Strawberry Quartz" — a misleading label, as true Strawberry Quartz is an entirely different and considerably rarer stone. Buyers should be aware that most material sold under the Strawberry Quartz name is, in fact, Red Aventurine.
