Tree Agate is a variety of white to milky Chalcedony — a microcrystalline form of Quartz — characterised by its distinctive dendritic inclusions of green Chlorite or Hornblende minerals that branch and spread through the white body of the stone in patterns that closely resemble the silhouettes of trees, ferns, moss, and other plant forms. Despite its name, Tree Agate is not technically a true Agate in the strict mineralogical sense, as it lacks the characteristic banding of Agate — it is more accurately classified as a dendritic Chalcedony, closely related to but distinct from Moss Agate, which it resembles in its organic, nature-inspired patterning. Each piece is entirely unique, its internal landscape of branching green dendrites creating a miniature world of extraordinary natural artistry — no two stones ever displaying the same pattern of growth. India is the world's most significant commercial source of fine Tree Agate, producing material of rich, contrasting white and green colouration that is widely used in both crystal work and jewellery.
